With 30 years of experience, the graduate program in Geo-Information Science at Salem State University has a proven track record of preparing students for successful and exciting careers in the application of geospatial technology to a broad range of fields - from environmental protection and resource management, to urban planning, to public health, to business intelligence. With the expansion of our HyFlex program, Salem State's graduate GIS program now offers added flexibility with the option to be physically in the classroom or connect remotely and still get that real-time classroom experience. Salem State's graduate GIS program offers: - an integrated and applied curriculum that provides practical, real-world training in the utilization of leading geospatial technologies for research, planning, spatial data management, and project implementation. - evening classes convenient for working adults - small classroom sizes for better student-faculty interaction and support - professional instruction from practitioners in the field and academic experts - a supportive learning environment that welcomes students from diverse backgrounds, from younger students continuing directly from an undergraduate degree, to mid-career professionals looking for advancement or even starting a new career. We especially encourage applications from veterans and underrepresented groups, such as women and racial and ethnic minorities. - for international students, the graduate GIS program is a STEM-approved program according to the US Department of Homeland Security (CIP Code 45.0702). International students who graduate with a STEM degree may be eligible to remain in the United States for up to 36 months on Optional Practical Training (OPT).

    Summary
    We're looking for individuals who are interested in applying geospatial technology (e.g., GIS, satellite imagery, drones, data science tools and programming languages) to practical, real-world problems, as well as those who are interested in applying this technology to research. Geo-Information Science includes a broad range of techniques and technologies that are increasingly central to a broad range of fields: environmental protection, resource management, disaster planning and recovery, urban planning, climate change science, public health, and business intelligence. No specific prior training in geography or in these specific technologies is required or assumed. Students who do best are enthusiastic learners, curious about technology and the world, tenacious in learning to master new skills or solve problems, attentive to detail, and puzzle-solvers.
