Summary

We provide students with the knowledge and skills to investigate the underlying mechanisms of human disease caused by human infectious agents or toxins. Students receive training in the pathologic basis of disease including mechanisms of cell injury and death, inflammation, tissue repair, immunity and host response. UTMB is home to the Galveston National Lab, one of only two National Laboratories with Biosafety Level 4 (BSL4) capabilities located on a U.S. university campus.

    Summary
    We seek students interested in understanding and combating human diseases, specifically those caused by infectious agents and toxins. Students have the opportunity to work with multidisciplinary investigative approaches that include the latest molecular biology and sequencing technology, as well as learning basic biomedical concepts in biochemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology.
